For past tense we start a word with nili- before a verb.

I am cooking - Ninapika
I cooked - Nilipika.
I am walking - Ninatembea
I walked - Nilitembea
I am smiling - Ninatabasamu.
I smiled - Nilitabasamu
I am writing - Ninaandika
I wrote - Niliandika.
I am coming - Ninakuja
I came - Nilikuja.
